The Community Based Public Safety Collective is heartbroken to share the news that we, too, were impacted by the Trump Administration’s decision to terminate all federal funding for community violence intervention (CVI), among other cuts, including those to domestic violence services. The Collective’s cooperative agreement to provide training and technical assistance to 95 organizations, including community-based organizations, police departments, cities, counties, and states, has been terminated mid-project. As a result, we will immediately cease providing services to these organizations that have also lost their federal funding. CVI organizations, when resourced, can achieve stunning results, such as the 60-year low in homicides in Newark.
In addition to terminating the cooperative agreement, the federal government has also denied access to reimbursement for costs the Collective already incurred in good faith while delivering services under the terms of those agreements. These actions have created an immediate and severe financial shortfall for the organization.
Despite the short-sighted decision to terminate these life-saving programs across the country, we know that CVI practitioners are in neighborhoods right now and will continue to keep our families and communities safe.
The Collective will continue to operate, working on projects that are funded by philanthropy and local and state governments.
